Dr. Jianjun Shi is the Carolyn J. Stewart ChairProfess at H. Milton Stewart School of IndustrialSystems Engineering, Gegia Institute of Technology. Pri to joining the Gegia Tech in 2008 he was the G. LawtonLouise G. Johnson Chair Profess of Engineering, Profess of Department of IndustrialOperations Engineering,Profess Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan. He got his B.S.M.S. in Electrical Engineering at the Beijing Institute of Technology in 19841987 respectively,his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan in 1992.
Profess Shi's research interests focus on system infmaticscontrol f the designoperational improvements of manufacturingservice systems. He is one of the early pioneers in the field. He has produced 25 Ph.D. graduates (17 of them joined IE department as faculty members, 7 received NSF CAREER Awards,one received PECASE award; 3 serves as executive/directs in industrial companies). He has published one bookme than 150 papers (90 Journal papers,collectively received about 3300+ paper citations). He has also been closely wked with industrial companiesserved as PIco-PI of me than 17 millions dollars research grants. He has led various research projects funded by National Science Foundation, NIST Advanced Technology Program, Department of Energy, General Mots, Daimler-Chrysler, Fd, Lockheed-Martin, Honeywell, Pfizer,various other industrial companiesfunding agencies. The technologies developed in his research group have been implemented in various production systems with significant economic impacts.
Profess Shi is the founding chairperson of the Quality, StatisticsReliability (QSR) Subdivision at the Institute f Operations ResearchManagement Science (INFORMS). He currently leads the System InfmaticsControl Group of ISyE at Gegia Institute of Technology. He also served as the Direct of Program in Manufacturing, co-Direct of Global AutomotiveManufacturing Engineering,Direct of Labaty f In-Process Quality Improvement Research (IPQI) at the University of Michigan. He also served as an Associate Direct of a NSF Industrial/University Cpative Research Center (IUCRC)a thrust leader at NSF Engineering Research Center at UM. He is the founding Direct of the Quality Science Center at the Chinese Academy of Science in China. He is currently serving as the Focus Issue Edit of IIE Transactions on QualityReliability Engineering, Edit, Journal of Systems ScienceComplexity, Seni Edit of Chinese Journal of Institute of Industrial Engineering,associate edit f the International Journal of Flexible Manufacturing Systems. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineering (IIE), a Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME), a Fellow of Institute of Operations Researchthe Management Science (INFORMS), Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI,also a member of ASA.
Dr. Shi has received the IIE Albert G. Holzman Distinguished Educat Award (2011), Fging Achievement Award Fging Industry EducationalResearch Foundation (2007), Monroe-Brown Foundation Research Excellence Award at The University of Michigan (2007), Excellence in Service Awards IIE Transactions (2002, 2003), Robert M. Caddell Memial Award 2001),Best Paper Awards Industrial Engineering Research Conference (2006), ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress (2000),Nth America Manufacturing Research Conference (2000). He has also received the NUTN Distance Education Innovation Team Award (2007)the Sloan-C Program Profile Team Award (2006) as the co-Direct of the GAME. He was the recipients of NSF CAREER Award (1996), the 1938E Award at the COE (1998)Faculty Achievement Awards at UM (2003).
